Nightlife in Fueteventura
The nightlife in Fuerteventura is as diverse and numerous as the surf breaks. From the distinctly Spanish tapas bars and cafes beyond the harbour, to the tourist filled sports pubs and irish bars on the main drag; Corralejo has something to offer most tastes, all within 10 minutes walk from the Surfcamp.
The Azullodge team has rated their favourite bars in Fuerteventura. OINK! Oink! is still popular with locals and visitors alike. With their penchant for Jagermeister and loud music, Oink! is no stranger to impromptu parties. Add to this mix the greatest selection of 80’s surf videos and a newly covered (and levelled) pool table and it’s hard not to have an interesting visit. Home to Corralejo’s recently formed (beach) cricket team, Jay and the rest of the Oink! gang are always up for a laugh. All are welcome so go find out. Aaron: Dark & loud, you’ll come to watch people and stay for the Jager! Jamie: If you visit here, be prepared to drink too much! Corky’s Owned by pro-windsurfer Corky Kirkham, this is an ideal venue for daily surf forecasts, cold beers and for hooking up with other water users. Good sounds and videos with a friendly vibe, Corky’s is rarely empty but there’s always a space (and the odd shot) for Azul guests. Located on the first floor of the commercial centre. Aaron: Good bloke, good bar, great night out (now can I have that van please Corky?) Jamie: A night that starts here often ends up with drinking too much! Kiwi’s They bill themselves a ‘kitesurf’ bar but would be more accurately described as a venue for all. Jackass dvd’s, fussball and a great viewpoint for watching the evening’s comings and goings in the commercial centre… Kiwi’s is also known to employ some aesthetically gifted bar staff??? Popular with local Canarians in the early hours and proud purveyors of some kickass cocktails. Aaron: Always a good starting point for a night out. Free Pee-nuts on the bar too! Jamie: If you’re eating the peanuts, you’ve probably drunk too much! Flicks Karaoke bars should be consigned to room 101 as far as I’m concerned but I’m clearly in the minority on this so if you want to murder a song after too much sangria, then this is the place! Very friendly staff, just beware Bad Man Alex’s Jager fetish! Comedy value once the youngsters have moved on, especially if you appreciate bad singing. Aaron: Fame Academy has a lot to answer for. No you can’t sing! At least not until I’ve had another beer…. Jamie: You’re in a loud bar singing Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I will survive’, with full hand gestures and body moves… Go home, you have drunk too much! Mafasca Popular after-bar club venue, especially with the Spanish. Great place to mingle with the Island’s diverse population… if you’re still up for it at 2am? Conveniently sited opposite Flicks, Mafasca is guilty of the occasional Euro-pop crime, but hey, they’ve got podiums to dance on! Aaron: Podiums…..what more can I say? Jamie: You’ve found the podiums, you’re loving the Euro-pop… Best give up now, head to the bar and drink too much. Rock Island A more than welcome relief in the holiday world of jukeboxes, karaoke and wannabe DJ’s. Home to the Island’s finest acoustic artists, Rock Island offers live sets every night with some exceptionally talented musicians. Really mellow vibe without the ego. Humour, crowd involvement and a.c.! Aaron: Awesome. If you like Jack Johnson you’ll love the Rock Island. Jamie: Great bar, too good to miss. Try and avoid drinking too much. Sideria Yes it is exactly what it says on the tin! A cider house. Specialises in the Spanish equivalent of that West Country nectar that we’ve all come to love, fear and crave. Cloudier than a specimen jar in a GU clinic, this stuff kicks arse – but that’s not the reason for going… The selling point is the way in which it’s served…just don’t wear suede shoes. Aaron: Just make sure you order at least one bottle to your table, and let the waiter pour. Jamie: The waiter has spilt cider down your shorts. There’s three empty bottles standing with a mirky residue desperately clinging to the side of the glass. You don’t care! Let’s face it, its cider. One glass is too much! Waikiki Beach Club So you’ve made it to closing time? Reckon you’ve got the stamina for the breakfast club? Get on down to Waikiki. Beach club during the day, kicking night spot by dark; like a superhero’s secret identity, you’ll never guess until you know. Cheese anthems, glassy eyed guests and some outrageous dance moves – what more do you need? Aaron: Has to be seen to be believed, better make it the night before your day off though. 6am comes around pretty quickly! Jamie: Its 6am, you’re still standing…You probably haven’t drunk enough! Underground Pub One of three ‘British Sports Pubs’ and featured alone here because I couldn’t remember the names of the others. Decent number of screens if you’re into Premiership football or big, International sports fixtures. That’s about it….unless you’re also into a pub quiz, singalongs or bingo. Aaron: Well, the tourists have to have somewhere to go don’t they? Jamie: Somewhere for the tourists to go and drink too much! Café lounge Bit of an unknown gem this one. Way off the well beaten track of the town centre, the café lounge stands alone in the ‘Bristol’ area of Corralejo. Chilled soundtracks greet guests as they enter the subdued lighting. Make of it what you will, after a hard day in the water – you may well appreciate the chance to kick back with a beer. Aaron: I’ll let you make up you own mind on this one. Jamie: Join the European vibe here and share with other cultures how they drink too much. More images: |
